The Challenge
Dr. Amrita S. is a graduate of St. George’s University School of Medicine.
As an IMG from India, she had a goal of applying to a Residency in psychiatry. While it is an attainable goal for a U.S. medical graduate, for IMG’s, psychiatry residency has become extremely hard to achieve due to its competitiveness throughout the years.
Since the 2016 NRMP Match, the IMG friendliness percentage has dropped from 21.4% to 17.1.
Besides the unfriendliness of the program, Amrita had multiple failed attempts on her USMLE and not enough U.S. clinical experience, which made it even more challenging for her to match to any residency and have a successful ERAS application.
To revamp her candidacy Residence Medical has created a personalized pathway that will showcase her strengths and advantages, even for such a competitive residency program like psychiatry.
Our Approach
Amrita is doing research at a top academic and graduate medical university-based program, allowing her to publish and improve her chances of going into residency.
She already has some recent and excellent LORs, which we are drawing attention to her current Primary Investigator and GME team. She will also be receiving excellent LORs from her current Primary Investigator, where she will be granted an interview based on her merits for Psychiatry residency.
